The group met once a week on a Wednesday morning and the participants were hosted by CISWA volunteers. The main aim was to help women from other countries to feel more comfortable living in Australia and to this end, many simple activities were organised. These included short trips to places of interest for example the Perth Mint, Women's Health Care Centre, Kings Park, Fremantle, or even a local supermarket. Currently, this group is not run because of a lack of funding. However we hope that it will be possible to re-introduce it in the future.
This CISWA group was first set up in the late 1980s. All female international students and female partners of international students were invited to participate.
The group also enabled women who were not confident speaking English to practice their English in a non-threatening environment. Furthermore, it enabled women with few or no support networks in WA to discuss any issues or problems that were of concern to them with other women.
